September is designated National Preparedness Month -- a time to take a look at how well you, your family and your workplace are prepared for disasters.
Hurricane Harvey is another reminder to be prepared for anything. There are some disasters that cause unavoidable damage. Your preparedness will reduce damage and will make you more resilient. In the end, you will return to some sense of normalcy faster.
During National Preparedness Month, we will offer tips and suggestions on how you can be better prepared for disaster. Each week has a theme. In addition, we will be setting up a booth in different parts of the county to provide valuable preparedness tips and items to kick start your emergency kit.
The theme for September 10-16 is "Plan to Help Your Neighbor and Community." Do you have neighbors who might need extra help? Ask them if they have an emergency plan and how you can help following a disaster. Neighbors helping neighbors creates stronger communities.
