You’ve made a kit for your family, one for the car and one for the office. Your emergency plan includes an out of state contact. You know what to take if you have to evacuate. You’re better prepared than most of the population … but …
What if you own a large animal such as a horse? Disaster planning for anyone with large animals can be challenging.
Start with the basics. Keep your records with other important documents that you plan to take in case of an evacuation and include veterinary records, description, photographs and any identifying information (tattoos and/or microchip).
If evacuations are ever called for you should know how you plan to move your animals. Have they ever been loaded into a trailer? Make arrangements with friends who can keep your animals during the evacuations, if at all possible.
