Riverside County VOAD

Logo for Riverside County VOAD -- the logo is orange and white and represents the "uniqueness of diversity funneled into a cooperative goal. The logo depicts a narrowing selection and channeling process as member organizations pool their resources. To maximize these resources, the organizations become one, yet distinctive within predetermined parameters. Through a statement of purpose, these organizations are brought together under an umbrella organization known as VOAD.

Mission of the Riverside County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD)

We foster efficient, streamlined service delivery to people affected by disaster while eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort through cooperation in the four phases of emergency management: preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation.

We promote communication and collaboration among organizations throughout Riverside County in planning for and responding to disasters to:

  • Improve disaster preparedness throughout the county
  • Increase the effectiveness of our collective response
  • Minimize the duplication of resources
  • Provide services to those affected by disaster

Meeting Schedule

Riverside County VOAD meets from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of February, April, June, August, October, and December via virtual video conferencing.

Below are the links for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Independent Study (IS) and Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) training to meet member requirements for Riverside County VOAD membership:

IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System

Introduction to the Incident Command System introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher-level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. It also explains the ICS and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) relationship.

IS-700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

The National Incident Management System defines the comprehensive approach guiding the whole community - all levels of government, nongovernmental organizations (NGO), and the private sector - to work together seamlessly to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the effects of incidents. The course gives learners a basic understanding of NIMS concepts, principles, and components.

IS-288: The Role of Voluntary Organizations in Emergency Management

This independent study course provides a basic understanding of disaster relief voluntary agencies' history, roles, and services in providing disaster assistance. It is appropriate for both the general public and those involved in emergency management operations.

Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS):

This course provides a comprehensive discussion of the components of SEMS and how SEMS is used in California. Content includes mutual aid, multiagency coordination, the operational area concept, and how the five levels of government communicate, interact, and share resources.
