September is designated National Preparedness Month -- a time to take a look at how well you, your family and your workplace are prepared for disasters.
Hurricanes Harvey and Irene are reminders to be prepared for anything. There are some disasters that cause unavoidable damage. Your preparedness will reduce damage and will make you more resilient. In the end, you will return to some sense of normalcy faster.
During National Preparedness Month, we will offer tips and suggestions on how you can be better prepared for disaster. Each week has a theme. In addition, we will be setting up a booth in different parts of the county to provide valuable preparedness tips and items to kick start your emergency kit.
The theme for September 17-23 is "Practice and Build Out Your Plans." Now that you've written an emergency plan, take it for a test run. Call your out of area contact and practice reuniting with your family at the agreed upon meeting place.
Want to know more? Join the EMD team at the K-Mart, 7840 Limonite Avenue from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. In addition to our public education booth outside the front entrance, K-Mart will have an inside store display featuring items you can purchase to stock your emergency supply kit.
